Hip Flexor Mobility the Right Way

A Hip Extension Pattern Program

Does this sound familiar?

  • Low back pain --- when you arch backward?
  • Hip flexor pain/injury --- when you run or leap?
  • Anterior knee pain --- when you tumble or vault?
  • Tight calves, Achilles and ankle pain --- when you run or rebound?
  • Closed shoulder angle --- when you try so hard to open them!?

This course is designed to improve all of the above! Tight hips and a sore low back will be yesterday's news by improving what we refer to as 'Hip Extension.'

The course begins with a subjective and an objective measurement of you or your gymnast's Hip Extension pattern - This means the natural way the hips open and the body bends backward with the knees straight. The course lays out a plan utilizing what we refer to as M.E.D.S – Mobilizations, Exercises, Drills & Stretches. The M.E.D.S are intentionally designed to encourage a more efficient hip extension pattern addressing your gymnast’s multi-joint system. Correcting a hip extension pattern not only assists in eliminating a closed hip angle, but also enhances the biomechanical system in general, ie. Creates a greater energy transfer system, increases the impact sustainability of the body, decreases the load placed upon the lumbar spine, knees and ankles, etc. The course comes along with detailed instruction through each of the M.E.D.S as well as a timeline to follow. The course is 6 weeks in length and is followed by a repeat screen in order to measure progress.

Sloan Beard

Hey there, Dr. Sloan here - lover of helping people reach their goals, all things movement related and the beautiful sport of gymnastics! By training I am a CCSP, Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician and by life I am a retired gymnast. I have worked to combine my passion of gymnastics with my clinical skills to help those trying to stay safe, execute and compete in the world's greatest sport, GYMNASTICS.

The Gymnast Fix is my way of bringing my passions together and creating a platform in which I can work with many more gymnasts outside of the four walls of my practice - The FARM: Functional Athletic Rehabilitation & Movement. My goal is to help cultivate and foster the movement development of youth gymnastics today in order for them to achieve their own dreams.

With Love,

Dr. Sloan

[Now on with the boring stuff...]

Dr. Sloan Beard was born and raised in Tallahassee, FL. There she participated in competitive gymnastics until she moved to Indiana to attend Ball State University where she was a member of the gymnastics team, performed pharmaceutical drug research and graduated with a biology degree. Dr. Sloan’s seventeen years of gymnastics ensured many injuries thus many doctors’ appointments of all kinds. It was more common than not for a doctor to tell her to find a less demanding sport, which to her was not an option. She began seeing a chiropractor, who encouraged her to compete rather than quit. Chiropractic and manual therapy kept her in the physical condition needed to compete for many more years. Because of her experience, Dr. Sloan went on to obtain her doctorate from Logan College of Chiropractic in August 2013 and her masters of Sports Science and Rehabilitation in December 2013. She has worked in the family practice setting as well as the elite athletic realm including the athletic teams of; University of Missouri, Lindenwood University, Missouri Baptist University and Florida State University.

Dr. Sloan utilizes a hands-on adjusting technique, and is well versed in myofascial release techniques, kinesio taping, exercise prescription and sports rehabilitation.

When Dr. Sloan is not in the office, she enjoys spending her time in the sunshine, trying to keep up on the trails with her husband, Dr. Beau Beard, playing with her black lab, Louie, functional training at the gym and traveling to see her family and friends.
